Overview

"Thank you for giving us the chance to hold onto the wind."

—Rob Goode, one of our athletes.

In many ways this describes AccesSportAmerica. Aside from providing fun for people with disabilities and their families, we challenge participants to achieve greater personal, physical, cognitive and emotional function than ever imagined.

Children and adults realize, even after one session with us, that they are so much more than their disability. Their participation serves to dramatically alter perceptions and expectations, and spark the imagination.

Today, we offer:

  • Windsurfing
  • Hawaiian Outrigger Canoeing
  • Kayaking
  • Rowing/sculling
  • Water-skiing
  • Kite sailing
  • Year Round Tennis
  • Wall Climbing
  • Cycling
  • Adaptive Soccer
  • Function and Fitness programs
Our intent is to accommodate any person with any disability. AccesSportAmerica is the pioneer of equipment adaptation and fabrication for windsurfing for people with disabilities in the United States. We are applying this expertise to other high-challenge sports.

We believe that a day, week, or summer participating in a high-challenge sport offers much more than the exhilaration or thrill inherent to the sport. The experience is designed to effect change in attitude, esteem and expectation for a life lived with disability. Participation sparks the imagination of possibilities for those living with disabilities.

Once off the water, we encourage year-round training to capitalize on new found capabilities and strengths. Some train on their own while others train with our AccesSportAmerica training staff. Backed by medical rehabilitation physicians, therapists and fitness professionals, we offer programs that include weight training, water therapy, aerobic activity and muscle stimulation. The effect is tremendous.

AccesSportAmerica is reaching hundreds of children and adults annually offering quality programs and safe entry to high-challenge sports. The experience teaches and models the process of seeking and achieving hard-to-reach accomplishments. Participants experience the same excitement and exhilaration typically shared by elite athletes. This serves to dramatically alter perceptions and expectations.
